"La Fiesta de Salud" is El Centro Hispano’s Annual Health Fair and has been held for the last eighteen years to serve the growing Latino/Hispanic community in Durham. The purpose of the health fair is to educate the Latino community about Durham’s health resources, engage them in physical activities, and provide on-site free screenings for such health indicators as blood pressure, glucose levels, body mass index, cholesterol levels, lead, glaucoma and HIV/STD screenings.
Last year, 758 members of our diverse community attended the fair, and 39 health and human service agencies and 74 volunteers participated in the event to provide information, education, screenings and activities.
In our Feria de la Salud we offer some health screenings: in the community. Traditionally they have taken place at the same time as Nuestra Feria de la Salud, but this year they will be their own event. Some of the screenings that have taken place have been:
- Dental Screenings
- Blood Pressure
- Lead Screening
- HIV/Syphilis Screening
- Vision Screenings
- And many more…..
Our Feria de la Salud focuses not only in giving information on important health and human service services in Durham but included various physical activities, sports tournament and hands-on educational workshops and activities with the goal of making Latinos in Durham County become more Active.
