Education Program

El Centro Hispano (ECH) provides educational programming for community members from age 0 to 99 through our ESL, adult literacy, parenting and youth classes, as well as special activities. 

School Readiness & Achievement 

Child Enrichment ECH's Durham & Carrboro-Chapel Hill offices offer a structured, preschool experience for youngsters in both Spanish & English. Funded by Durham's Partnership For Children.

Tutoring: Afterschool homework help for children in grades K-12 in Spanish & English, emphasizing in reading & math. Funded by Durham County , Orange County, Town of Carrboro and Town of Chapel Hill Government.

College Preparation: In our Youth Leaders in Actin program, we connect middle and High School students with higher education opportunities, while at the same time help them to develop their life and leadership skills .

Adult Education

English Classes (ESL) in collaboration with Durham Technical Community College & the Orange & Durham County Literacy Centers.

Literacy/ Elementary & Secondary Education: Spanish adult literacy classes, as well as primary & secondary education courses. At the successful completion of each level, participants receive the appropriate certificate from the Mexican Public Education Department through the Mexican Consulate, which is valid in the United States and in all Latin American countries. Funded by El Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior and ECH.

Spanish as a Second Language: Spanish classes to individuals & organizations. Courses can be tailored to specific needs.

Computer Classe

Citizenship Classes: ECH has some scholarships to help you become a citizen.

Motheread This program works with Spanishspeaking mothers & their children to help children develop a love of reading. Funded by Durham's Partnership For Children.Family Development Parenting Skills:

Circle of Parents: Helpinf parebts to raise a bilingual/bicultural child in a new system. Funded by Durham's Partnership For Children, Orange Partnership for Young Chlidren and Orange County Literacy Council.
